Hey everyone, the new asset pack is here at last! It’s a few days later than I planned, because I’m a bit of a perfectionist. This has some of the sparkliest effect animations yet!

This asset pack has 10 fantasy effect animation types. Each one comes in both a large and small version, and each one has multiple color themes! Let’s take a look at some more juicy preview GIFs.

Hey everyone, I’m here for another Work-In-Progress Wednesday! This time, I’ve got a first look at a new upcoming asset pack, coming late September.

Game UI Pack 1

For the next pack, I’m doing some GUI elements that are useful in pretty much any type of game. I did a few packs like this in the past, but I felt like it was time for some brand new ones!

One of the biggest parts of this asset pack is a collection of meters. They have interchangeable icons and bar colors. They’ll come in two premade lengths (20 bar pellets and 10 bar pellets), and also as split-up segments so you can assemble bars of any length in your game via code or image editing.

A couple different styles of meter will be included, and will come in different color themes for the border. For each style, there’s also a version with no icon spot. Great for either a meter or a progress bar!

Window themes and other standard GUI elements will also be coming your way! They’ll come in a few different designs and color themes.

So far the UI pack is turning out more on the sci-fi side, so I might call it “Sci-fi UI Pack 1” in the end. Also, it’s fun to say out loud!

Hey everyone, I’m here for another Work-In-Progress Wednesday!

This time I have something a little different for you. I’m sure you’ve all heard of Unity, the popular cross-platform game engine. I’m happy to announce that I’m bringing my pixel art asset collection to Unity, one asset pack at a time!

I’ve been creating a partially-automated workflow to help me easily import my asset packs to Unity, and then I can submit them to the Unity Store. It’s pretty slick!

For example, in the GIF above you can see some effect animations from Super Pixel Impact FX Pack 1 in the running Unity project.

Above are four of the first nearly-complete animations from Super Pixel Fantasy FX Pack 1! I’m going for a different style with this one compared to my other effect packs: The main part of each effect is particle-based. This works well for magic effects that require well-defined little sparkles, and I think it gives the animations a slightly more retro vibe. So far it’s been a lot of fun to try something new, and I enjoyed getting some more practice with smoke clouds in Magic Puff A. The rest of the planned animations include another magic puff, a skull-shaped smoke puff, a power-up animation, and three more spellcasts. The spellcast animation above was made with a heal spell in mind, but realistically it could be used for anything! The remaining spells I’ll be taking inspiration from are a buff, debuff, and level up effect. Looking forward to animating more of these!

Hey everyone, I’m here for another Work-In-Progress Wednesday!

After Low Rez Jam wrapped up last week, I took a much-needed rest over the weekend… and then got back to work on the game, of course! Here’s a devlog on the progress so far.

Realm Rumble: Road to Version 1.0.0

I was going to do a video announcement for Realm Rumble’s Low Rez Jam release, but I decided to hold off until the next big update, which I want to represent a complete version. If you haven’t played the game yet, grab it here! (For Windows.)
Here’s what’ll be in the next version:

Polished Title Screen

The title screen is no longer just text on a blue background! It now displays a unique level and scrolls through it. While working on it, I accidentally looped from the last level to the title level and was able to play on it. That was a pretty fun bug!

Hey everyone, I’m here for another Work-In-Progress Wednesday!

Welcome to all the new patrons since last time! I hope you’re enjoying the artwork and finding a good spot for it in your games.

As I mentioned in my previous post, I’m doing Low Rez Jam this year! The only rule of the game jam is to make a game in a 64×64 resolution. I decided to make a sort of tower defense / RTS game, a first for me. I’ve been hard at work, and want to show off the progress!

Above is a screenshot from Monday. Placing walls is one of the main parts of my game idea, so that’s what I worked on first! …Well, first was getting the shell of the game running, and laying out the level, and adding camera movement, and adding cursor movement. But after that, it was time to build some walls!

Hey everyone! Yep, you read that right- It’s WIP Thursday.

Personal Update

Sorry to miss WIP Wednesday yesterday so soon after setting a new schedule! The week has been a mess so far- my dog Garnet had a surprise medical issue come up and we’re still trying to figure out what it is. She’s in good spirits today but had several accidents in the house on Tuesday, which is a first. The vet said it might be a “drinking too much water” issue, so we’re managing her water intake and hoping it’s as simple as that. We’re heading back to the vet today for a follow-up and possibly a blood draw. I’ll keep you posted.

UPDATE: The vet thinks she’s experiencing some nausea and we can try normal water levels on Sunday. Garnet’s a very good girl!

Long story short, I’m going to be working hard on the asset pack today and tomorrow, and I’ll see if I can still make my own deadline. If not, then it’ll come out as soon as possible.

Hey everyone, I’m here for a Work-In-Progress Wednesday!

Recently I’ve been doing a lot of programming, but I’ve got the first couple effects done for the next effects pack: Super Pixel Impact FX Pack 1!

This asset pack is going to be quite a bit quicker than the other effect packs, because impact effects are pretty straightforward. I’m also experimenting with drawing particles and other elements that can be reused in future effects, which would be nice!

On the programming side of things, it’s not very flashy work… yet!
