Hey everyone, I’m here for a Work-In-Progress Wednesday to show off what I’ve been working on!

…But first, a slight change of plans. I originally had the next asset pack scheduled for this Friday (Nov. 25). This is going to sound silly, but back in October when I made my schedule for November I completely forgot about Thanksgiving. I did work ahead on this pack but not quite enough to be able to get it out by Friday with a mid-week holiday, so I’m rescheduling it for a week from today. The next asset pack will arrive on November 30.

With that out of the way… Let’s take a look at the next asset pack!

Super Pixel Effects Pack 2

This bubble above is unique and has more than one animation. It has an appear animation, a loop animation, and a pop animation. This kind of blurs the line between projectile and effect, so it could be used for either! (I haven’t decided yet if some of the other effects in this pack will follow a similar pattern, it depends on how they look.)

The bubble is also unique in that it has semitransparent pixels. If there’s time I might also export it without, because I know some folks might find it useful.

I just finished this explosion yesterday! It’s actually one of my favorite animations that I’ve ever done, and definitely my most “realistic” explosion yet. It’s still quite stylized, but the elements are all there, from the way the flames give way to smoke clouds to the streamers of fire that erupt and jet out. I used some reference videos of real-life explosions so I could slow it down and really understand how they work. I also repurposed the dust animation from Effects Pack 1 for the bottom of the explosion, because it was just what I needed!

Some effects are simpler than others. There were no slash-like animations in Effects Pack 1, so I figured it would be nice to include one in Pack 2! I’ll also be doing a claw-like slash for this pack. They might fit well in RPG-like games, where the effect appears over the character who’s getting hit.

This is an impact shock. I borrowed some pieces of the dash effect from Pack 1 and gave it kind of a rounded oval feel. It could be used for a superhero landing, or for a flashy mid-air jump. This effect would also work rotated 90 degrees, as a heavy punch impact or as a boost effect for a player’s movement ability. The sky’s the limit!

This is an electric burst! This is still a work-in-progress… fitting for WIP Wednesday, right? I like what’s going on with the white/purple spiky star but I think currently the lightning in the foreground is a little busy, and kind of loses the lightning-ness because of that. I’m probably going to make some changes later today. I’ll also be doing a fire burst and ice burst for this pack, so there’s a lot of elemental stuff going on this time!

That’s all for today- I’ll see you on Wednesday, November 30 with the finished pack!

Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
